BIO / MAUREEN CAVANAGH
I spent 14 years at Sports Illustrated before leaving to help Derek Jeter start his media company The Players’ Tribune where I was the founding Creative Director. Currently I am freelancing for The New York Times and counting down the minutes until the Olympics and World Cup.
I really love sports.
And I really love visual storytelling.
I’m constantly in awe of the changing media landscape - especially when it comes to sports journalism - where I’ve had a front-row seat to the industry’s ups & downs for over 20 years.
I believe some of the most compelling and underrepresented stories in the world come from the sports world and I have a deep understanding of the creative possibilities and challenges that come along with telling those stories.
I won a couple of POY’s in Sports, a Webby, NPPA Sports Award, an SPD Award for best new website design and was even up for an Emmy, (we didn’t win but had a really fun time at the party)
There are thousands of untapped stories out there. I love working with teams to amplify and elevate those stories using different tools to tell those stories.
